Program Description
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Oceans and Coastal Security Fund supports the National Coastal Resilience Fund which restores, increases and strengthens natural infrastructure to protect coastal communities while also enhancing habitats for fish and wildlife. Established in 2018, the National Coastal Resilience Fund invests in conservation projects that restore or expand natural features such as coastal marshes and wetlands, dune and beach systems, oyster and coral reefs, forests, coastal rivers and floodplains, and barrier islands that minimize the impacts of storms and other naturally occurring events on nearby communities.
Eligible Uses
Established in 2018, the National Coastal Resilience Fund invests in conservation projects that restore or expand natural features such as coastal marshes and wetlands, dune and beach systems, oyster and coral reefs, forests, coastal rivers and floodplains, and barrier islands that minimize the impacts of storms and other naturally occurring events on nearby communities. Geographically, the National Coastal Resilience Fund funds will focus on coastal areas of U.S. coastal States, including the Great Lakes States, U.S. territories, and coastal Tribal lands. The additional funding will enable the National Coastal Resilience Fund to provide increased support for communities most vulnerable to climate impacts, including those who have been historically disadvantaged.
